Joining the CBCT Beta.
First time CBCT users would be required to join the CBCT Beta testing before being able to upload the CBCT records.
You can join by following the next steps:
Open the desired Patient detail page.
Navigate to the Radiographs tab.
Scroll until you see the CBCT roots Beta is now available option and click Join Beta.
A pop up will appear with the information and documentation regarding the CBCT Roots.
Acknowledge this and click Join Beta.
Now you should be able to upload the CBCT files by scrolling down in the “Radiographs” tab - 3D CBCT / DICOM and selecting Upload file.
Export volumetric DICOM from your CBCT machine
You can define DICOM file parameters while exporting the scan via your CBCT software (like InvivoDental, Planmeca Romexis, Dolphin or similar). Below are our recommended settings.
Choose a volumetric file format which is normally one of the following:
single DICOM file
file extension .dcm
file size >30MB
multi-file DICOM / set of single DICOM files (can be named differently depending on your software)
file extension of each individual layer-file .dcm
file size of each individual layer-file <300KB; total folder size >30MB
please archive the folder into .zip format so that all layer-files will be included
Choose our recommended exporting parameters:
Field Of View (FOV) - 16x10cm or bigger
Voxel Size - 0.3 mm
Compression Level - uncompressed or lossless compressed

Upload scan while adding new Patient
Go to LightForce Doctor Portal, and sign in (select your account if required)
Being on the Dashboard page, click Add New Patient.
Fill in the patient’s personal information form, click Save and Continue.
Upload Photographs, and click Save
On the Upload Radiographs step, scroll to the bottom of the page, and click Browse Files in the 3D CBCT / DICOM slot to select and upload the scan file from your computer
Click Save after uploading is successfully completed
Supported file formats: .dcm, .zip
Maximum file size: 1GB for .dcm; 512MB for .zip
Upload scan to existing Patient
Navigate to the Patients page, and search for the patient you would like to attach the scan to:
Click on the patient’s row and once in the Patient detail page the and navigate to Radiographs tab.
Scroll to the bottom of the page, and click Upload File in the 3D CBCT / DICOM slot to select and upload the scan-file from your computer
Click Save after uploading was successfully completed
Re-upload scan to existing Patient
You can delete and upload other versions of DICOM file to existing patients in case of any mistakes made during an initial upload.
Go to the Patient detail page of the patient you wish to re-upload the CBCT.
Navigate to the Radiographs tab.
Once being on the patient's Radiographs tab, scroll down to the 3D CBCT / DICOM Slot and click on the trash can icon to delete the current CBCT.
Once deleted the CBCT you can click Upload File in the 3D CBCT / DICOM slot to select and upload the new CBCT scan-file from your computer and click save.
Feature Utilization
In the LightPlan, click Root Vis button in the top navigation bar to toggle the roots on and off.
Roots are visible at both Initial and Final view. Animation is also supported.
As you move teeth, the roots will move along with the teeth.
FAQS
Creating Radiographs out of CBCT
At this time LightForce is unable to create other radiographic images out of CBCT scans, Panorex and Cephalometric images must be created and submitted separately. Panorex is required for LightForce treatment.
Unsupported Scenarios & Known Issues
Cases where intraoral and CBCT scans were taken at different times with major clinical changes occurring in-between (e.g. tooth extraction, implant addition, primary tooth exfoliation, aligner or appliance treatment) .
Staged and Mixed Dentition cases are not currently supported.
Roots for canine substitution or any other tooth substitution - Currently roots are not supported for cases where there are tooth substitutions in the LightPlan.
Artifacts on roots
Some roots may appear with extra artifacts based on the root segment. These will still be planned.
Misalignment between teeth and roots
Problematic roots will be removed from the case by LightForce Technician, other roots will be considered during planning. Missing root(s) Some roots may fail to segment. Remaining roots will be considered in planning.
