This article includes the bonding protocol and tray insertion technique for bonding with LightForce.
Bonding Protocol For LightForce Brackets
See the following articles for applying adhesive and recommended materials for LightForce.
Trial Fitting IDB trays for mixed dentition, eruption, and spacing cases
-
- Important to note you may need to trial fit the tray before applying the adhesive prior to bonding. Check to make sure the tray is seating completely on the teeth and there is no rocking upon insertion. If the tray does not fit, cut/segment the tray until it fits. See Tray Segmentation instructions in the Rebonding article. Rebonding Protocol & Tray Segmentation Instructions
- After Trial fitting the trays clean the LightForce bracket pads with cotton tip with acetone and compress air dry before applying adhesive.
Prep the Patient for Bonding
- Prophy/Pumice/Clean teeth with non fluoridated pumice or prophy paste.
- Place the entire NOLA cheek retractor system and use compressed air to dry the patient's teeth.
- Etch the teeth using the LightPlan to prepare the precise area where the bracket is being bonded. Apply full acid etch.
- Once the appropriate amount of time has passed (follow manufacturer's recommendations), rinse etch thoroughly for 5 seconds per tooth and air dry.
- Apply thin layer of primer to the teeth included in the posterior segments (cuspids premolars & molars)
- Air dry primer for 3 seconds
- Light cure the primer for 3 seconds per tooth
(Note: wait to apply primer to the anterior teeth until after the posterior brackets have been bonded)
Tray Insertion Technique
- Insert lower right posterior segment first, (LR3-LR6) Hold tray with finger pressure on the occlusal surface only and light cure each bracket.
- Insert upper right posterior segment, (UR3-UR6) Hold tray with finger pressure on the occlusal surface only and light cure each bracket.
- Insert lower left posterior segment first, (LL3-LL6) Hold tray with finger pressure on the occlusal surface only and light cure each bracket.
- Insert upper left posterior segments, (UL3-UL6) Hold tray with finger pressure on the occlusal surface only and and light cure each bracket.
- Remove all posterior IDB trays with scaler or fingers lifting from the lingual and removing the tray towards the buccal.
- Check for excess flash or for any IDB tray left bonded to the teeth or stuck under the tie wings of the brackets with instrument and check interproximal contacts with floss.
- Execute a final cure of all of the brackets directly.
- Dry anterior teeth and check to make sure teeth are chalky white. Then add primer and light cure the primer for 3 seconds per tooth.
- Insert lower anterior segment (LL2-LR2) Hold tray with finger pressure on the incisal surface only and light cure each bracket.
- Insert upper anterior segment (UL2-UR2) Hold tray with finger pressure on the incisal surface only and light cure each bracket.
- Remove both anterior IDB trays with scaler or fingers lifting from the lingual and removing the tray towards the facial.
- Check for excess flash or for any IDB tray left bonded to the teeth or stuck under the tie wings of the brackets with scaler or explorer and check interproximal contacts with floss.
- Execute a final cure of all of the brackets directly.
